Kalia & Dosanh's cell phone

Those who have been following the story from the beginning will remember that this was the first controversy. Grewal claimed the Liberals had approached him and offered him a number of things in order to cross. The Liberals claimed the opposite. There had been a middle man involved, Sadesh Kalia (some of whose phone calls Grewal taped: they have recently been re-edited and re-released--see here). Kalia came out and said that it was Grewal who had made the first approach (here)

In an email just now, Shirley (thanks Shirley) points out that youcan go to the CBC, click on The National, and hear the story for yourself, which starts at the 24 minute mark. Apparently Kalia had to contact a certain Amrik Sangha in order to get Dosanjh's cell phone number, something that both Kalia and Sangha now publicly affirm. Shirley adds:
The relationships seem to be as follows: Kalia and Grewal are old friends; Sangha and Dosanjh are friends. Kalia and Sangha know each other. Presumably Grewal and Dosanjh also know each other but not well enough for Grewal to have Dosanjh cell phone number.
This is, I think, the likeliest explanation. It is not completely impossible, however, that Kalia and Dosanjh had been doing business on a land-line and Kalia needed to get in touch with him quickly. But surely any earlier contact would have included the exchange of those details. (We hear such exchanges several times in the tapes.)

I have been trying to find the transcripts but CBC doesn't seem to make them accessible. There was more in addition to the information about the phone call and as soon as I have it I will update the post.

And actually as for the quasi-fake business deals, that is 12 year old history. I posted it for two reasons. One, I was only 8 at the time that happened and only learned about this myself yesterday. Two, it is another example of Grewal's lack of credibility and since I have had two posts already going into his credibility, it was more of a follow up.

Once I have the info on the call I'll give you a heads up here.

Grewal's past is like his present, very questionable, at best

Ok I found the video segment and transcribe the part dealing with Kalia and the other man, Amrik Sangha. It is about a minute and a half of the segment.

You can see at on my blog here:

It certainly looks bad for Grewal. The segment also revealed some other interesting tidbits before the cell phone part.

Re: The National

I am glad the "who contacted whom" thing is being revisited, since it had been reduced to GG vs. UD, and it is important to remember that there is third party confirmation (Kalia) that it was GG who called. The phone records are icing.

As for the immigration matter. Elsewhere, Buckets suggests that it might be unfair to raise it (again?) after all this time.

I disagree, and I think most people would too. If someone commits fraud to get a passport, that ought to be investigated when it comes to light, don't you think?

I could transcribe that segment later on in the evening. Right now I just have the text of the minute and a half regarding Sudesh Kalia and Amrik Sangha up on my blog.

I agree with anonymous re: The National. Being an easterner, I was not aware of the immigration / shady business dealing matter. To me, stories like this one, coupled with news articles about previous recordings all speak to a lack of credibility on Grewal's part.

My parents immigrated here on condition to invest in a business. It was not an easy condition to fulfil but they did it and became Canadian citizens. If Grewal did indeed fake an investment to remain in Canada, then the allegation must be investigated.

The story stated that Grewal invested $50,000 in a carpet company. The owner gave him back the $50,000 the next day and worthless shares. The owner himself stated that he wanted to get out of the failing business. Grewal used this investment as his means to get his citizenship.

What's sad is that Buckets is being forced to delete comments to begin with. One thing that has frustrated me since I began blogging was how people are so willing to ignore rational, intelligent, and informed discussion and instead replace it with insults, fallacies, and smears.
