From CNEWS :
Professor Jonathan Rose, who specializes in political communications at Queen's University, believes Harper would have been best to let sleeping dogs lie in the Grewal affair.

"One of the first rules about communications efforts is you need to be able to control the message," said Rose. "This one had so many open questions and so many intangibles that it made controlling the message very difficult, if not impossible." Rose said it's "difficult to take a high road in terms of the optics of the behaviour of Tim Murphy when in fact you're engaging in quasi-illegal or questionable activities. I think it was doomed from the start."

The story has since moved on to Grewal's business dealings and immigration status.
