Notes on Holt's letter 6: the CBC story on campaign finance problems

Holt's letter to local conservatives mentions last week's story about alleged problems in Grewal's campaign financing. Here there is much less than in Holt's letter to Milewski, which he mentions:
The CBC contacted our Newton-North Delta EDA earlier last week with information that they were looking into six donations that appeared to be lacking receipts. On Monday, July 11th, a full eight hours before the Donation Receipt story ran on CBC News, that network was handed a detailed written explanation of each and every one of those six cheques.
This helps fill in the time-line for the writing of Milewski's story.

The CBC web story claimed that Holt backed out of an interview, citign a need to do more research. I'm not sure when the CBC story first appeared,

Grewal's election expenses under scrutiny

Last Updated Mon, 11 Jul 2005 22:05:17 EDT

"The president of Grewal's Newton-North Delta riding association, Jim Holt, backed out of an interview at the last minute, saying his investigation is incomplete."

And note that in Holt's letter to Milewski, not every cheque had a "detailed written explanation." Indeed, just look at the plumber's cheque, which Holt could not explain, just question. Thre's a difference between an explanation and raising issues.

Also, in that same letter, Holt credits Milewski as solving one of the cheques in Grewal's favour.

Spin, spin, spin.

Great article!

So how come you support a Liberal government that steals public money to cheat in elections? Note: Given the widely acknowledged stranglehold The Martinites had on the Liberal party, arguing that this is a different Liberal government is not an acceptable response.

Great to see you are going through this letter with a fine tooth comb.
Sorry I seemed to create such a work load for you.
